51.2 Million People Will Watch Videos On Smartphones In 2012
The growing use of smartphones and the increase overall in terms of their capacity is fueling speculation and prediction on what the smartphone landscape will look like in the next year or so.
According to Slots of Vegas, a whopping 113.9 million new mobile internet users will emerge in 2012; of that number, 106. Million will be on smartphones. In other words, the pretty much all of the growth in mobile internet use will be spearheaded by the rise and rise of the smartphone. In the middle of all this will be the mobile platforms themselves, and we can expect the competition between Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android to take center stage once again.
The use of smartphones to view videos will also increase, and according to Slots of Vegas, a massive 51.2 million people will be accessing video from their smartphones. If this is true, might it suggest that carriers will be going soft on data plans? After all, streaming video on a smartphone will need more than just the bandwidth needed to view a picture or read an article.
We’ll just have to wait and see, but for now we can I suppose, get ready for a few shakeups in the smartphone and mobile internet arena.
Do you think smartphones are really ready to handle video? Let us know below.
