YouTube Breaks 4 Billion Daily Video Views
YouTube is about to become more of a commercial enterprise where content is concerned, but that hasn’t dented its number of visitors—in fact, the opposite seems to be happening.
According to a release from Google, YouTube is now generating over 4 billion video views per day, a number which is up 25% on figures reported 8 months ago. This massive number of views is supported by an increase too in the number of hours video uploaded to the site. Back in may it was reported that only 48 hours of video was uploaded per minute; today that number has stretched to a whopping 60 hours of video.
The only downside to this massive amount of traffic is that YouTube isn’t quite able to monetize it all. According to data submitted by Google, only about 3 billion YouTube views per week are monetized, leaving the vast number of videos viewed un-monetized. The company is looking to change this however, and if you’ve watched anything on YouTube recently you’d have noticed that ads are not being streamed in the middle of videos. The reaction so far by viewers isn’t all that welcoming but when the $100 million worth of video content does arrive, I suspect people will be more tolerant.
