Google Makes $10 Million Per Day From Android
Few people who use Android powered devices know about the raging battles that are taking place behind the scenes over the platform. Google of course is the owner of Android, but this wasn’t always the case, and when the mobile platform was acquired several tech companies made cries of “foul”.
One such company was Oracle who made early claims of patent infringements, the last major suit being filed in 2010. At the heart of Oracle’s complaint is that Google infringed on its patent rights when it used JAVA IP in Android. At the time that suit was filed, the USPTO (patent court) rejected Oracle’s claims. But the fight is back on.
Oracle is resurrecting its old lawsuit, putting a fresh face to Google’s stewardship of Android and specifically how much Google makes as a result of its stewardship. According to the suit, Oracle estimates that Google makes around $10 billion a day from Android. This is based on Google’s own estimate of 700,000 Android activations each day. This estimation which many are calling inflated would put Google’s advertising revenue on the back of Android at $3.65 billion.
If Google’s earnings are anywhere near the $10 million per day Oracle is claiming, we should see some fireworks in the coming months.
