The Average Social Gamers Are 43 Year Old Women
Social gaming is big business, anyone observing Zynga will attest to that. But few people have a sense of which demographic makes social gaming the honey-pot that it is. That is until now.
A new study conducted by Flowtown and presented in an infographic has painted a vivid picture of the typical social gamer; breaking down the demographic by age, likes, and dislikes— even the state of things inside their home.
Based on the study, the average social gamer was found to be 43 year old women. Yes, you read that correctly, it’s not the teens or young adults that dominate social gaming, it’s the ‘older folks’. This helps to explain I suppose why companies like Zynga have been able to grow as a business and attracts the level of advertising and media attention that it does. This demographic is after all loaded with cash. According to Flowtown, this typical social gamer is usually married with kids and has a college education.
Social gamers are also very active gamers overall, and the study found that 67% of all social gamers spread their time playing games on consoles, while a staggering 76% play games directly on their desktop PCs.
This revelation of the typical social gamers will be an eye opener for many marketers, who I am sure, will see the opportunity to pitch lots of weight loss products—gaming after all is a wholly sedentary activity, and that means piling on the pounds.
