Hulu Adds More Free TV Shows
Fresh off a stellar performance for 2011, Hulu is delivering on its promise to make more and more content available to its users and subscribers. The streaming video content provider unveiled its original programming line-up for the first six months of 2012 at the Television Critics’ Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour held recently.
Straight out the gate, Hulu led with programming that adds more content to the ad-supported free section of the site. Renewed for the second season in a row was Morgan Spurlock’s ‘A Day in the Life‘, joined by a new program called ‘Up to Speed’, a program directed by popular indie director, Richard Linklater. But Hulu hasn’t stopped there. According to the line-up, Hulu is trying its hand at original programming and will see the addition of a scripted program called ‘Battleground’.
This fresh program has a political backdrop and is set amidst a political campaign in Wisconsin. Battleground is not completely original though, as the concept was originally developed by Fox Broadcasting only to get shelved. What Hulu has done is brought in some heavy-hitting producers and actors to bring the series to live. This plus other very popular free programs are expected to bring more users and thus advertisers to Hulu—which incidentally, made $420 million in revenues over the course of 2011.
