Bing Adds Videos To Home Page

Sites include . Published on September 29th, 2011. Written by Anthony West.

The engineers over at Bing may be terrible at making their search engine efficient but they sure do know a bit about aesthetics. Ever since Bing introduced the stunning rotating photographs on its homepage, Bing has been perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing search engine homepage to look at. All that is now about to change (for the better) because starting with its US based users, Bing will be adding video to the homepage.

Video will act as a fitting compliment to the stunning photographs already displayed on the homepage and should really help Bing get more traction with users. The search engine has struggled for years to develop an algorithm that ranks high when it comes to search relevance. As a matter of fact, Bing represents a financial black hole for Microsoft, something they’ve been trying to fix for some time. It’s not clear whether the face-lift given to Bing’s homepage is part of this attempt; we’ll just have to see if more substantive changes come to support the form.

For now US based users can enjoy Bing’s pick of videos and stunning photography. Non-US users will have to wait a bit, but I don’t suspect it will be too long.

Do you think the addition of videos will make Bing a more popular search engine? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
