Pandora Adds Workout Stations

Sites include . Published on September 15th, 2011. Written by Anthony West.

Pandora certainly isn’t resting on its laurels; just months after the streaming music and internet radio website went public, things are going up a gear with the addition of a set of ‘workout’ stations.

The 12 new workout and exercise stations have been added to encourage a healthy lifestyle among Pandora’s 37 million active listeners. So how will listeners select their workout music? Pandora has carefully arranged the music by workout categories, so dance workout routine has its own selection of music and artists. The same goes for cardio; endurance training; strength training and the other 8 types of workout routines created by Pandora.

The 80’s cardio selection for instance, has music from Billy Idol, Michael Jackson and Journey. The Alternative Endurance Training routine has music from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Rise Against and Sublime. The selection is very broad, so whatever type of music tickles your fancy, a workout has been created around it. Like country music? Then Pandora lets you shed those pounds using the Country Fitness workout—music from which includes the likes of Keith Urban, Toby Keith, Lady Antebellum and Jason Aldean.

Pandora certainly seems to be bearing fruit. As a company, revenues have grown threefold since Pandora floated on the New York Stock Exchange. Industry analysts are even predicting that the company will hit break even by 2012—an extraordinary feat given the piracy battles being waged by streaming music websites. This latest addition to the line-up, along with the comedy content added earlier, will make Pandora one of the top internet destinations for streaming music.
