YouTube Launches The September 11 Channel

Sites include , . Published on September 3rd, 2011. Written by Anthony West.

No matter where you lie on the opinion divide, September 11 is a very touchy subject indeed. Emotions seem to get the better of even the most stoic of observers.

It seems now that YouTube is trying to bring a sense of clarity and peace to the very tragic set of events, and has announced the creation of a channel dedicated to September 11. The channel is in collaboration with the New York Times and is titled ‘Reflections on 9/11. On the tenth anniversary of the attacks, the creation of this channel is a fitting tribute, and helps to show that even after those events, America and the world is still strong, and united against evil.

YouTube is also hoping that subscribers to the channel will help build the content. A crib sheet of what is required has been submitted and users can help share their stories or those of people they know who got caught up in those tragic events of September 11. Users must also base their videos around the answering of 3 questions. The first is ‘your strongest memory of that day or time period; second, ‘how 9/11 changed you and how it changed America; and third, ‘what you lost (or gained) because of 9/11.

No doubt the channel will become popular and profound stories will be shared. My only hope is that the channel is used for ‘reflection’ and not an opportunity for revenge.
