Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them.
Facebook Threatens To Surpass Youtube As The #1 Video Sharing Site
Facebook’s dominance is starting to look a lot like Google a few years back (and arguably still today).
The world’s number one social network has just climbed to number 3 on the list of top 10 video sharing sites in the U.S. Now, you may ask why this is important, and the answer is simple: if Facebook starts to dominate all facets of web interaction online, it will become the only game in town pretty quickly. Facebook is already the number one photo sharing site in the U.S.; a feat that goes largely unnoticed by most people.
The news of Facebook’s climb up the online video chart comes on the heels of comScore’s announcement of the social networks record traffic haul for July 2011. It seems no matter what Facebook does, its popularity just keeps on growing and growing.
According to comScore, Facebook had 51.5 million uniques for the month of July 2011. This massive surge ensured that Facebook eclipsed big names like Yahoo, Microsoft and Viacom. Only Youtube with 158 million and Vevo with 62 million unique visitors are bigger. But Facebook’s numbers are likely to grow so it’s a matter of months really before Facebook is number two. Youtube more than doubles its nearest competitor so it’s safe to say that Facebook still has a lot of catching up to do. Still, for a website that was not founded on being a video sharing site, 51.5 million uniques is quite a feat.
