Groupon Goods To Be An Amazon Challenger
Last week, Groupon registered several domain names with the keyword “groupongoods”. There are speculations that the daily deals giants will be launching a Groupon Goods service in the near future but the company is silent about it for now.
There are speculations that Groupon could start collecting on deals other than spas, restaurants, massages and pilates sessions. It could also ink deals with online retail companies such as Alice.com, Newegg.com, Drugstore.com, Pets.com, and Overstock.com so that it could start offering discounted household items, groceries, electronic devices and other stuff.
Groupon can use its local commerce model and its large user base to go into deals for goods that are regularly purchased on the internet. This model would make perfect sense for the Groupon Goods service, if it was ever rolled out by the deals giant.
This would be one way for Groupon to diversify its revenue and increase its growth as it prepares for its IPO. It would not require a lot of overhead costs, especially if it goes for agreements with other online stores and not build the service in-house.
At present, Groupon has already partnered with Livenation and Expedia to provide online deals on travel via Groupon Getaways; and event tickets via GrouponLive. Groupon doesn’t have any comments on the issue for now.
