3 Reasons Some Blogs Don’t Do Well
There are a lot of reasons why blogs don’t do well. Here are three reasons, which if remedied, can really excel a blog from a site rarely visited, to a site that is constantly getting traffic.
No Direction
There are millions of blogs out there. Many of them abandoned or sporadically visited. One of the main reasons some blogs become stagnant is because they lack any clear direction. Content is king but if every post is on a different topic, no one is going to keep coming back because people look for consistency on a blog. They equate a blogger’s theme it with authority. If one week a blog is talking about how to save money but then the next week it’s talking about sports, then visitors will notice this and will not return.
Boring Headlines
Let’s face it; the headline in an article is what captures the attention of a potential site visitor. Headlines are what make content-driven websites flourish. Without captivating headlines, any blog would have low traffic rates. Great headlines are what have made Yahoo’s homepage one of the most visited pages on the internet, according to searchenginewatch.com. So if a blog has great content, then a great headline will not only get more clicks but it will retain visitors. Great and attractive headlines are what get people clicking and reading the content of a blog.
No Consistency
If a blog is good then it has to maintain its goodness by being fresh. But many a blogs have great content yet the date on the most recent post is months, sometimes years old. Consistent posts increase the likeliness of a blog moving up in the search engines. Dead blogs usually have dead traffic (although there are blogs that get tons of traffic although their owners have abandoned them) but the thriving blogs out there have bloggers that consistently post to them. Get a daily or weekly editorial calendar and stick to it. A blog thrives off of consistency.
There’s several other factors (e.g. SEO, expertise, marketing) that determine a blog’s health and potential but these are just a few that people can take into account when considering ways to either keep their blog successful or revive it.
