Instagram Gaining Momentum: 150 Million Photos Shared To Date

Photo sharing isn’t new online, but Instagram is taking it in a new and refreshing direction. People are warming up the social networking/photo sharing site, that it can now boast 150 million shares.

So what’s so significant about 150 million photos being shared? Instagram launched the app that allows for photo sharing only last October. A quick check will reveal that it’s not even a year and already people seem to be hooked on sharing photos—on Instagram. According to the site’s official blog, over 7 million people have joined and shared something using its app.

A big part of what is driving Instagram’s growth is the ease at which people can edit and share their photos. With just a few clicks, a photo taken with your mobile phone can be uploaded, given a cool effect, and shared on multiple social networks. You can even send your photos via email. This ease of sharing is translating to users sharing a photo every 15 seconds. Not bad for something that isn’t even 12 months old.

Instagram’s growth hasn’t gone unnoticed by power users either, and celebrities like Justin Beiber, as well as fashion brand, Burberry are using the site to keep their followers happy. The site’s and app’s founder, Kevin Systrom, anticipates even more growth as the word gets out, so who knows? Perhaps in another 10 months, we’ll be doing a story about Instagram’s 200 millionth share.
