IBM Unveils High Performance Cloud Services
IBM announced that it will soon offer cloud services that will help users tackle advanced technical and scientific computing tasks like climate research, simulations for product development, life sciences and analytics.
Through IBM’s high performance computing cloud services, an organization can connect all its computing resources into a single, high performance private cloud and at the same time give system administrators the flexibility to set priorities based on the requirements.
At present, only IBM offers a private cloud service that’s optimized for HPC users. According to a paper that’s part of the Magellan Project, clouds must be optimized for technical or scientific applications for it to be cost-efficient for scientific use.
By connecting different systems together, organizations can have easy access to more computing that can be utilized to support their business priorities. Instead of dividing computing resources by departments, an organization can use all their resources as a single unit and deploy them according to their urgency.
IBM calls its new HPC cloud services IBM SmartCloud, which is an enterprise-class secured cloud designed to meet the needs of businesses. IBM used its own experience with cloud computing projects to come up with this offering. IBM’s cloud offering allows customers to manage and prioritize HPC components on a global basis while maintaining operations and information securely behind the organization’s firewall.
