Skype as a Medium of Education

Sites include . Published on April 3rd, 2011. Written by Debbie Parker.

Skype is used by school teachers and their students around the globe and the company announced that it created a new social network that can help users connect, collaborate, and swap notes and other teaching resources online.

Skype1Skype launched the international community site called Skype in the Classroom. It is an online platform made to help teachers find one another and share their knowledge with one another. They can filter the search criteria according to the age groups of their students, location, and the subjects.

The Skype in the Classroom has been in beta since the end of December and it already has more than 4,000 teachers coming from 99 countries. Teachers are asked to sign up with their Skype account at the web site and then create a profile with their interests, age groups, and location. Then the user can start connecting with other teachers from across the globe.

The teachers can add each other to their contact lists of Skype and message each other through it. Maybe this new project from Skype can help foster new ideas that can be beneficial to teachers. Collaboration networks such as Skype in the Classroom can be helpful for teachers to come up with ideas to make teaching more interesting to their students.
