Hotmail Expands Active Views Feature
Last year Microsoft introduced the Active View feature to Hotmail which allowed users to easily view websites such as YouTube, Hulu and Flickr without leaving their inbox. This is made possible since the content is accessible inside the email message.
Today, the company has announced an update to this feature by including more websites such as LivingSocial, Netflix, LinkedIn and Posterous. This allows users to easily access their favorite services such as their Netflix account through their email.
His dynamic feature of Hotmail allows the users to take action within the email itself instead of opening up another link. Studies have shown that just less than 10% of people click on text links on their emails.
In the case of Netflix, people can update their movie selection queue or view the latest recommended movies inside the email. Businessmen who use LinkedIn are finding it easier to connect with people or follow their favorite companies.
Microsoft is steadily building up their Active View feature which is currently still available only to certain partners. In the future, the company plans to open up this feature to third parties so that they too can develop their own content which can be integrated into Hotmail.
