Samsung to Unveils Competitors of iPad 2
Samsung has unveiled its 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab that is lighter and thinner compared to the iPad 2. It is still a question whether the tablet will be able to compete against the iPad 2.
The revamped Galaxy Tab features a larger touchscreen compared to the iPad 2. It is supportive to a higher resolution. The tablet is powered by a 1GHz dual core processor. The Tab is lighter than the iPad 2 Wi-Fi. But pricing is considered to be the most important aspect in the competition. The 16GB Wi-Fi model of Samsung will have the same price tag as the iPad 2 Wi-Fi 16GB, i.e. $499.
This redesigned and thinner tablet is felt much better in all respects compared to the first Samsung Galaxy Tab. But the tablet does lack one key feature, i.e. the hoard of software which is offered by Apple for its iPad 2.
Samsung also introduced another contender, such as the Galaxy Tab 8.9. It comes with the same 1GHz dual-core processor. In fact, the tablet looks the same compared to the 10.1-inch model.
Both tablet devices surpass the iPad 2 in the camera spec department. They feature 2 MP up front and 3 MP rear cameras. Both are capable to capture 1080p video. Moreover, the Samsung tablets have one more feature that the iPad 2 does not have, i.e. Adobe Flash playback.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi will hit the market on June 8. The 16GB version will have a price tag of $499 as well as the 32GB model will be available for $599. The company did not disclose a release date for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi, but it is expected to hit the market this summer with a price tag of $465 for the 16GB model as well as $569 for the 32GB version.
