Google Voice Now Offers Number Porting
Google is now testing a new feature in its Google Voice service called number porting. This latest feature will enable users to use their wireless mobile numbers as their Google number (landline and corporate mobile number not included). One of the reasons Google Voice service hasn’t reached the targeted number of users, even if it’s free to use if you are calling someone in the U.S. or Canada, is that you are provided with a new number. This means that you would have to give out yet another number to your friends and relatives. The introduction of this new feature aims to solve this problem.

This is still a limited test run though and don’t be surprised if you can’t access the service since only a few users have access to it right now. If you can access the service you will be guided to a series of steps to activate it.
- Check number: Input your number for the system to check if it can be ported
- Review porting terms and conditions
- Enter account information
- Confirm your transaction
- Checkout: Fee is $20 payable using Google Checkout
These are the only details available from Google as of this moment but company representatives commented that they will soon make the service available to everyone.
